From Costa Rica to Honduras

31 januari 2008 - Tegucigalpa, Honduras

Hey everybody!

How is the winter going? I can finally say that the wheather is great, ever since I left Panama, it has been dry (most of the times) and sometimes very hot, yeah!!!! :):)

My last couple of days in Costa Rica were a lot of fun. That hostel in La Fortuna (where I was staying the last time I wrote) was so nice and I met so many people. The canopy tour I wrote about was definitely the best part, but after that we also went on a volcano tour at night, because that's the best time to see the lava. It was pretty cool to see, but it was not that much and far away. We heard that about 15 min after we had left, the others saw an explosion, wow!!! Unfortunately I ddin't see that, but at least we saw something. A lot of visitors don't see anything.

The next day we went to some natural swimming holes not far from town. The setting was gorgeous, but I am such a coward, the only way to get in was with a swining rope or from a high rock and I didn't. I blaimed it on the stomachpains I was having, but I guess I was just too scared :( The rest of the day I enjoyed the company of some great people in the hostel. It was relaxed and fun, hanging around, chatting and drinking beers! After a nice mexican dinner we decided to go out to the only bar in town for a birthday drink at 12. All night they were giving me cocktails and of course, a beautiful cocktail at 12. They started singing happy birthday and the whole bar joined!! After that some locals with a guitar sang another couple of songs for me. I had such a good time, it was a great celebration of my birthday.

The next day I kind of forgot it was y birthday and I went to Monteverde. To get there we had to go by jeep-boat-jeep and it was beautiful. Within an hour the vegetation was completely different. In Monteverde I went walking in the cloudforest, beautiful! But I only had two hours until the last bus went back to town, so I ran through it quickly. But it was nice to do some exercise again ;) In the evening I went on a nighttour, walking with a guide through the forest. Was a cool experience and we saw a lot of animals: racoons, sloths, leaf insect, a sleeping butterfly and even a tarantula! After that I went out for a nice birthdaydinner with mojitos with some people I had met at this nighttour.

I stayed only one night in this town, beacuse I wanted to go to the beach again. I went to Playa del Coco. People told me the town was not so nice, but good for diving. But when I got there, what a pleasant surprise! I loved this very very small town. It was very cute, with local people as well as tourists and the beach was not horrible at all if you walk a bit away from town! I found a very friendly diving centre with whom I went diving the next day. When we arrived at the place of the first dive we saw humpback whales, it was amazing!! So big and so close, we could see them very well and I was so much impressed. It was already worth the whole diving trip. The first dive was a bit dissapointing, we didn't see much. But the second was beautiful! Nice corals, brightly coloured fish, huge and what a variety! Also a lot of murenes, a white tip shark and even a big fat ugly octopus! I was very happy! The rest of my time in this lovely town I stayed on the beach and finally got a bit of a tan.

Last week I went all the way from Liberia, Costa Rica to Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Two days by bus, ppfffff. But I made it and it's great to see my family again. Even though there is no wedding I'm having a good time. On Sunday we celebrated my brothers birthday, and also mine! We had a huge barbecue, a coconut-chocolate cake, a pinata (birthday tradition for children, you'll see the pictures) and even some mariachis singing songs for us!!! The next day was his real birthday so I took the family out for dinner. We had a lot of tasty cocktails and the waiters sang for him and made us dance, was so much fun! The rest of the time we spend shopping, watching movies, talking a lot and eating! It's a nice relaxed time!

Take care, see you next time!

xxx Selinde
